Hello everybody,
It’s been a slightly longer hiatus than intended, but the newsletter is starting back up.
There’s a chance that the break has been too long and you’re wondering who the hell is emailing you.
Refresher: Watching the World Go is a newsletter looking at how our anxieties around climate breakdown can be seen in the cinema of the past fifty years. So far, we’ve looked at things like Bigfoot and a fading idea of wilderness, psychedelics and ecological trauma, and how wildfires are starting to leave their mark on American film. The next slate of essays kicks off with Liam Neeson being very sad in the snow and Daniel Day-Lewis drinking in a bowling alley.
There’s been a couple of tweaks to the newsletter. The main one is the switch to sending this out monthly rather than every two weeks, just so that each essay gets enough attention in between other gigs.
The second is that there is now the lovely option of paid subscriptions. Everybody will continue to receive every post for free, regardless of whether they pay extra or no. It’s just in case you like what you read and feel like donating some money to the cause. The two subscription options are either £1.75 a month or £10 for the year. Or, just stick with keeping this free and they will keep arriving in your inbox, no problem at all.
See you in a month.
